Demand Slowing Down? Here's How to Tell Why
Hi H Client!
If it feels like the phone's been ringing less this month, you're not imagining it. We're hearing a consistent pattern across our client base right now: people are pausing, not disappearing. Softer inquiry volume, longer decision windows, more price sensitivity. That's a very different problem than losing customers to a competitor, and it calls for a different response.
Here's the distinction we're watching closely: the inquiries are mostly still coming in, they're just softer. More comparison-shopping, more "just getting a few bids," more people sitting on a decision. So when a month feels slow, the cause usually isn't one broken thing in the marketing. It's usually one of three: people holding off because of the broader economy, a shift in the quality of inquiries rather than the volume, or something in what happens after the inquiry comes in, how fast it's answered, how it's followed up, how it closes. Each needs a different answer, and the most expensive mistake is assuming the fix is simply "more volume."
It's the same instinct a crew lead applies on a job site. If a job's falling behind, you don't assume the team stopped working hard, you find the actual bottleneck first: not enough hands, a scheduling gap, a supply delay. A slow month works the same way. Pouring on more of the wrong thing doesn't fix a bottleneck somewhere else in the line.
One pattern worth knowing: recurring and maintenance work is holding up well right now in most areas, and the pullback is landing hardest on discretionary design-build, outdoor living/pool, and hardscape projects. If you run both, there's a real opportunity in leaning on the resilient side of the business while the bigger-ticket work is slower to commit. Certain specialty lanes are staying strong too, tree health programs and niche inspection services among them. If any of that overlaps with what you do, it's worth a conversation about leaning in now rather than later.
If you want to talk through what's actually driving your pipeline this month, and whether it's a demand issue, a capacity issue, or something else entirely, book time with your Project Manager. We'd rather help you find the real answer than guess at one.
Until Next Friday,
